![]() ![]() Really, when it comes to assigning samples and VSTs to midi controllers to use live, the sky is the limit with MainStage. ![]() For the drummer, in the same song, we have a click track (still in MainStage) that routes (via a "send") to a separate set of outputs that bypasses the PA but only goes the to the drummer's headphone amp which he can control. Similarly, on Big Money we have some synth sequencing happening that I turned into a WAV and that is triggered by a button on my Novation controller but I could just as easily have assigned it to a key on the foot pedal, I just didn't need to in that scenario. Others keys on the pedal are assigned Minimoog sounds. For example, in Spirit of Radio, I have the high C on the foot pedal assigned to a "crowd noise" sample that I can trigger in the bridge by hitting that with my foot. And some where I've got multiple splits so I can trigger different samples or backing tracks by hitting a certain key. ![]() There are some songs where I have multiple layers of synths assigned to specific keys on the foot pedal. It can get as complex or as simple as you like. synth sounds(using VSTs), samples, backing tracks etc. We're technically not "live" yet because we haven't played out yet but we've got a Rush tribute that we're in the process of building up and rehearsing for in which I'm using a Novation 61-key controller for the keys and a Roland PK-5 as a foot controller. I apologize if this sounds confusing lolĬlick to expand. This is pretty much what I'm doing as well with MainStage. Mainstage already has a template for playing backing tracks which is great to start with.when you create a new file go to Mixers and choose the 8 backing tracks and delete what you arent using. So when you hit that button it will start both files at the same time. Then drop a button in mainstage and map a "playback>transport>play/stop from beginning" parameter to the button. So if a song has some synth and a click, i create two channel strips each with its own playback plugin, load the mp3s (or aifs) into each and change the Group to 1 or whatever number as long as they match. I then save out each layer as its own separate file and then load each into its own Channel Strip using a Playback plugin in Mainstage. We are doing covers and I created the backing tracks (usually only synths/piano/sound effects) in either Garageband or Logic with a click track. and would you care to talk about how it works, gear/software suggestions, issues, challenges etc ?Ĭlick to expand.I just answered one of your posts in the other thread but we are doing this via Mainstage. although it would be kind of "packaged" around just the tracks we have and not quite be like a full band performance.Īnyone here doing this kind of thing ?. ) and a foot controller to run the drums, keys and other guitar parts.ĭoing a bit of homework it would seem like I could use a comp (Mac or Windows) and a foot controller (like the Behringer FB1010) to run the tracks into our PA and have a pretty solid performance. It occurs to me that the primary songwriter/guitarist and I could do gigs performing the material, but using software (Mainstage, Ableton Live etc. Most of the songs have been recorded, so we have tracks/stems for all of the parts. ![]() The bands I'm in are primarily original music projects. I'll try this question here in Live Sound.įor a couple of reasons, musician reliability being one, I'm increasingly interested in learning how to be able to perform live with a limited number of musicians on stage. ![]()
